All that and we haven't even touched on what we're most famous for; in the winter Stowe becomes a great American ski town. Stowe Mountain Resort is one of the great alpine ski areas in eastern North America and the local touring centers make Stowe a premier destination for Nordic skiers. Not feeling quite so athletic? Town is filled with locally owned shops and galleries, pubs and restaurants of every stripe and even the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum. The surrounding area is full of craft breweries, artisanal cheese makers, and countless antique shops. We're located 45 minutes from Burlington, the home of the University of Vermont and the state's most populous city( 45,000) and a half hour from Montpelier, our state capitol.
